THREE INSIGHTS

ANNA ROBINSON – Week 5

“Three Insights” (original Chinese below)

  1. Pay attention and observe carefully.

This is not a new discovery. Every week, I am learning, and every scene is a specific practice. Often, my peers have already provided specific expressions of intent, and I need to look and feel carefully, preserving my precious curiosity to discover.

  1. Take a bigger risk.

In the game of time travel, you can take more risks. For example, in one scene, we were playing in a cave, and when time rewound, Shawn said we could dig a hole, which I found very interesting. At the same time, I enjoy learning how to manipulate time, using space, time, lighting, and music.

  1. Rhythm.

We played a fun rhythm game where we can pause when everyone is in sync and then return to the rhythm.

In a restaurant, two puppet shows can take place simultaneously. The waiter is the director; wherever he is, there is sound, while on the other side, there is only visuals without sound. The contrast between the two sides makes it very visually appealing.

This week, I also volunteered as a lighting technician for a children’s play. When looking at the play from a broader perspective, it feels like rhythm. Beginning, development, climax, and resolution – all have a rhythm.

This week, I returned to class with great enthusiasm, but I felt stuck, just like writing this text with Chinese and English mixed together. My body is still stiff, my emotions are too calm, and my language is okay but lacks storytelling. I tried to take bigger actions, but during chair exercises, I found that loud noises or intense emotions without a proper setup would startle my partner, just like scaring children when I play with them.

I know that what I need is more practice, so I am not discouraged. The specific action I’m taking is to heed my peers’ advice and stop smiling.

I need more bodily expressions, or maybe I should start dancing and singing.”

1. Pay attention

2 Take a bigger risk
